Most of you would already be familiar with the traditional keyword research methods. You probably already use a bunch of keyword research tools.
While those are great, and I use them myself, you could be missing out on discovering unique and industry-specific keywords.
That’s why I will teach you one easy keyword hack that you can quickly use to get loads of keywords relevant to your industry.
Spoiler alert, it’s through forums.
Now what I’m going to show you is a method no one uses for keyword research, but it’s going to save you loads of time, and it’s going to give you loads of awesome keyword ideas for SEO.
So let’s jump in.
What Is Keyword Research?
Now I’m sure you already know what I’m talking about, but let’s quickly cover precisely what it is for those new to keyword research.
SEO professionals use keyword research to identify and analyze search terms that people enter into search engines when looking for products, services, or general information.
An example of a keyword would be, Best SEO agency near me.
Why Is Keyword Research Important?
Using keyword research can tell you crucial information, such as where you currently rank for keywords, which keywords are easy to rank for, and which keywords your competitors are ranking for.
Keyword research takes all the guesswork out of finding what people are searching for.
Okay, let’s move on to my easy keyword research hack.
Keyword Research Hack
This keyword research hack is going to help you get more search traffic. This method can help you get more leads, customers, and sales to your website simply by finding keywords that none of your competitors have.
So the first thing you do is find some relevant forums for your industry.
So let’s say you have a local store selling bird-watching products.
What you can do is find forums related to that industry. For this example, we will use birdforum.net.
Use A Keyword Tool To Verify Your Keyword
Head on over to your favorite keyword research tool.
For me, it’s Ahrefs because this has loads of data I can use for keyword research.
Copy and paste birdforums URL into the site explorer, and from there, you can see what this website is ranking for and get loads of keyword ideas based on that.
Now, the beautiful thing about forums is that it is so damn easy to outrank them because no one’s really doing SEO in the forum thread.
If someone posts a comment or thread on a forum, no one’s building backlinks to that page.
No one is optimizing the homepage.
It’s just a random piece of content people throw up to get some Q&As!
You can easily outrank a forum page by creating a post on the topic and doing a better job.
So how can you do that?
Inside Ahrefs, click on the ‘Top pages’ tab on the left-hand side.
You can see all the pages that are ranking right now and the volume for specific keywords.
I’ll give you a couple of examples you could use from the list below.
The first keyword that stands out to me is Orange Cardinal.
It’s getting good views, and this website is currently ranking number four.
You could easily target that keyword and create better content to outrank them.
From here, you could continue to go through the list and try and find relevant keywords for your industry.
The second example is excellent if you sell birdwatching products on your website.
The keyword ‘Carl Zeiss binoculars serial numbers, which would be super easy to outrank your competitors for.
So just by taking some keywords from your competitor’s list, you can start producing new content.
Let’s look for some other opportunities to find new keywords using another forum from birdsinbackyards.
Using the same easy keyword research method, copy and paste the URL into Ahrefs and take a look at what they’re ranking for.
As you can see, this site produces some more relevant search terms that you could potentially copy.
Clicking through to their top page, you can see it’s not great, and there would be no on-page SEO for this content.
It’s barely got any content, but at the same time, this is ranking number two on Google.
That means you can easily outrank it!
And if you do, that will result in an extra 100 search volume per month for your website.
The beauty of forums is that these are keywords people are searching for. Your customers are on forums like these.
They’re passionate about bird products. For example, they’re looking for answers to their problems.
Therefore, if you create a piece of content based on some of these keywords, you’re quickly going to rank them.
How To Organize The Data
Now, I would recommend taking each of these keywords and plugging them into a spreadsheet.
Include the keywords, the volume, and the keyword difficulty.
To find the keyword difficulty, click on the keyword.
So in a few minutes, you should have a new list of targeted keywords to go after and write content for.
That’s A Wrap
So that’s it, guys.
